Inclusion complexes between β-cyclodextrin as a nanocarrier with thymol: Molecular modeling studies

This study aimed to characterize inclusion complexes of thymol with β-Cyclodextrin(βCD). The β-cyclodextrin-thymol(β-CD-thymol) inclusion complexes were prepared by freeze-drying (FD) method and TH/βCD inclusion complexes loaded chitosan (CS) nanoparticles (NPs). The AL-type diagram of the phase solubility studies of thymol exhibited the formed inclusion complexes with the 1:1 molar ratio. The thymol/βCD-ICs and thymol/βCD-CS NPs were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1HNMR, XRD, and SEM. These results supported a successful formation of the inclusion and the preliminary structure of host-guest inclusions was constructed. The theoretical study of molecular modeling demonstrated the most desirable mode of TH encapsulated into the βCD cavity.
