Host-guest interactions in various protonation forms of the anticancer drug imatinib (IMA)with beta-cyclodextrin (CD) have been investigated using techniques of 1H NMR, phase solubility, FT-IR, XRD, SEM and dissolution study in vitro. The solubility and dissolution rate of IMA were significantly improved upon complexation with βCD as compared to IMA alone. Phase-solubility analysis showed A(L)-type diagram with beta-CD, which suggested the formation of 1:1 inclusion complexes. Molecular modeling further supported the inclusion complex formation. The entry of the Imatinib molecule into the beta-cyclodextrin cavity from both ends was exothermic reaction. |
